3D Printing Revolution

If 3D printing is starting a new industrial revolution, it is well on its way to revolutionizing teaching and learning as well. The result of bringing these tools into classrooms is a rekindling of the powerful pedagogy of hands-on learning. 3D printing leverages hands-on learning to deepen our educational approach to traditional educational subjects.

3D Printing in VET aims to introduce the use of 3D Printers in Vocational Education and Training in Europe.

IO4: 3DP- VET Online Platform

The fourth output of 3DP-VET is ready for action. It consists of an online module, which participants can work through at their own pace. It will be worked in Moodle, a Learning Content Management System (LCMS). LCMS is a platform that integrates authoring, delivery, publishing and analysis of content in multi-user environment. It is like a virtual campus. The Moodle contains all the course materials, with theory and practices for all types of needs.

We created an innovative training programmer tailored to VET teachers and educators that are teaching several subjects and disciplines (eg. science, technology, engineering, mathematics, physics, biology, arts, sculpture, architecture, painting, etc). The training course’s aims to prepare VET teachers and educators to apply and use 3D printers in their classes. The modularised training programme will permit trainees

to test out of particular modules or subtopics if they have past experience in an area.

At the current phase of the 3DP-VET project partners will run the implementation of six national pilot “Train the Trainer” seminars. We are delivering one session for each participating country (Greece, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Germany and Italy) where we will be training approximately 48 VET teacher/educators. The seminars will be held through May – July 2021 via our 3D Printing-VET e-learning platform. Each of the partners have made training materials available in their national languages so we are excited to test these within their national contexts!

It consists of 6 units:

  1. Technical Basics
  2. Introduction to 3D Printing
  3. 3D Printing in Education
  4. Design and Printing
  5. Overview of CAM Processes
  6. Setting up a 3D Printer

It is free to join and available for anyone interested to participate now, in seven European languages.

Joint Staff Training Event

16th-22nd March 2021

During mid March the Joint Staff Training Event (JSTE) took place for our project 3D Printing in VET. JSTE was hosted by KEKAPER- Region of Crete, sadly not in Rethymno, but on Zoom. 28 participants from the 8 partners in 6 countries were trained on the basis of the 3DP-VET course, provided feedback and critically evaluated the course content and impact. It was a super learning opportunity where each partner was able to present their own section and experience the entire training programme.

JTSE Agenda:

Day 1: Introduction to 3D Printing and technical basics- Module 1 & 2

Day 2: 3D printing within education and the design & printing process-Module 3 & 4

Day 3: Overview of CAM and the set up of 3D printers – Module 5 & 6

Day 4: Training guide for VET educators – IO5 & IO6

Day 5: Feedback and final modifications

3D Printing in VET aims to introduce the use of 3D Printers in Vocational Education and Training in Europe. In order to introduce the 3D printers in vocational schools and institutes in partners countries, the project consortium will explore the status quo on training structures in different EU countries and develop a highly innovative, internationally competitive training programme on 3D printing use.

3D printing in VET will last 24 months (2019 to 2021) and it involves 8 partners from 6 different countries: Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (Germany), European Education & Learning Institute (Greece), Centro Internazionale per la Promozione Del l’educazione e lo Sviluppo Associazione (Italy), Escola Técnica de Imagem e Comunicaçao Aplicada (Portugal), Universita Telematica Internazionale- Uninettuno (Itaty). Wyzsza Szkola Ekonomii I Innowacji w Lublinie (Poland), Inercia Digital SL (Spain) and Kekaper- Region Of Crete (Greece) which is the coordinator.
